Monitoring - very poorly permeable strata, second cutout

Back

Very poorly permeable.

This image shows the problems of monitoring poorly permeable aquifers.

Some boreholes miss the plume altogether, in which case it may go undetected. The second cuttout shows the width of the plume.

In this instance, the very low permeability and the width of the plume means that the chances of a monitoring borehole actually intercepting the plume are very small.
